2010 Gift GuideWow… I really do like color don’t I ? Top Row: Jensen Wood Turntable $88, AFM Laugh Time from Swatch $50, Floating Sparks Cardigan at Anthropologie $69.95, Bottom Row: The Map As Art $29.70, Scout Holiday Multicolor Flag Necklace $65 Jensen Wood Turntable![]() ![]() Done and Done!So we are officially moved in to the new place…. mostly still living out of boxes, but projects are getting done… including my chair/table re-do! I still plan to eventually stain the top a little darker, but it’s officially SO much nicer to look at this than the old version! Not shabby for a free table and chairs, some $2 fabric and a little re-purposed paint! ![]() Movin’ Right Along. This weekend David and I are officially moving into our new apartment. We’ve been trying to keep things DIY and inexpensive. It’s been a little tricky since our last place was furnished, and this place is not. We’ve found some great things so far that were easy enough to refinish and make great. Our new landlord let us know that the last tenants left a kitchen table and chairs and wondered if we would like them…. They were in rough shape, but have been a fun project. ♥ Here is the before: The chairs and the table base look like they’ve been painted about 50 times…. I sanded it all down and got to work. I repainted them in one of my new favorite colors “Dark As Night” Satin finish, from Behr Premium Ultra Plus, paint and primer in one.. The paint was a little pricey but it did an AWESOME job. I love that the primer and paint is together and it went on really easy… plus the color is this deep grey/black/blue… Uh I love IT Table After: I will probably stain the tabletop a deep cherry too… The chairs are looking great too I think: Next project… re-covering these awful cushions and then spray painting this coffee mug tree I picked up for 50 cents! ![]() You had me at happy.David and I made our very first trip to Portland from NYC back in 2008. Our good friends were getting married and we couldn’t wait for an escape to the west coast. I had been to Portland once previously as well. We instantly fell in love with so many things about the city. One of the first shops that David stumbled upon while out exploring was Cargo. He dragged me over to it as soon as we met up and told me he KNEW I would be in LOVE with the place. There it stood….20,000 sq feet of delightful, colorful, fabulous decorations, trinkets, furniture and textiles… it was like someone made it just for me…. Then this summer David and I moved to Astoria…. 1.5 hrs NW of Portland….. and little did I know, a Cargo annex was soon to open meer blocks away! I have had the incredible opportunity to help out at Cargo when they are busy. Last month I was delighted to assist in helping to redecorate the space to coincide with their “India” theme… Here some photos from the “mini” Cargo 255 sq ft, in Astoria! Click on the photos to enlarge. This place just makes me smile. ![]() ![]() Hello Beautiful! So we’ve been on the hunt for a nice colorful rug for the new apartment. The new place has very light carpet and we aren’t really “light carpet” people… We like red wine, and well just COLOR in general. We wanted something that we can plan to keep for a long time, but let’s face it… we also can’t invest much into it. I checked out a lot of the local shops and we found GORGEOUS rugs, but they were all $400+ and that just isn’t a possibility…. So I started scouring all my favorite home blogs and saw quite a few “finds” from folks that had been doing the ebay thing. I’ve never used ebay and neither has David, but we decided to check it out and see what we could find… AND viola… we got a RUG! It’s 5′ x 7′ and it’s a hand embroidered antique. AND we got it for $70 with FREE SHIPPING! Woot! I am superrrrrrr excited. What do you think? I think all the colors will so nicely tie together our furniture and accessories… yeah! ![]() ![]() ![]() Kanto Speakers Design ContestI’ve been in contest mode lately. I keep seeing these really great contests and not only would they be AWESOME to win, they are GREAT exercises for a designer. They really help me to experiment and get more creative. The latest contest I’ve entered is to create a design for some limited edition Kanto Speakers. Here is the design I created. Starting in a day, voting will begin for all the speaker design submissions. Check out the link! http://www.talenthouse.com/creativeinvites/preview/ac11307e717078b293022b4bd548e62a/152 ![]() |
