I never made it around to posting a Christmas list, so I figured I might as well post a Valentine’s Day list… and also an *Anti-Valentine’s Day list as well… Sure I may be all married, and giddy lovey-dovey now… but there once was a time, oh not so long ago, when I was broken up with on 2 consecutive Valentine’s Days….. so yah…. sometimes that day and all that it stands for… just sucks — for the folks who still tolerate, here are some great finds for yourself or your love.
♥Look at these little pretties♥… $30 and under! Talk about budget friendly
I so love creating promo materials for folks — especially when I know them well… like “a-hem” my husband… I had a really fun time making the postcard and new poster for his upcoming show. In today’s economic climate businesses have to think carefully about their promotional expenditures. Many look to low cost promotional items. I’ve found that keeping things low-cost often leads to creative thinking… I created a design this past year and found an online company that could print 100 tote-bags with the design for less than $150…. talk about a steal… and it was a FANTASTIC wedding favor (sorry kids, we didn’t spend THAT much). I think it’s great to know a few key resources when designing and creating on a budget. I just got Davids promo postcards in the mail for his show. Of COURSE I would have loved to letterpress each one. Or I suppose I could have printed them at home, but honestly my inks are SO expensive. I’ve found that Vistaprint, and other inexpensive online printers, do the job just fine, and at a fraction of the cost. So I guess research research research…. and see if you can’t find your own bargins for some fast, & cheap print jobs. And if you want some suggestions, let me know! Enjoy the promo pieces I’ve made so far… and hope to see you at the show!

My Niece Loves Darius Rucker… Yah that’s right, I said it. She wiggles & shakes and can’t get enough. I had my own love interest in him….back in the day. The year was 1992. I spent all summer mowing lawns and then I got my golden ticket. My first concert would be Hootie! My parents dropped me off at the swimming pool supply store where I was meeting a family friend who’d offered to take me to the show. The magic began in the lot, where I found a fifty dollar bill… Later I would treat myself to my first concert t-shirt and a Chi-Chi’s* dinner… Chi-Chi’s may be long gone but my love affair with music had ignited like the hot salsa. Look’s like my little Zoe is keeping the tradition alive… Darius might be clean shaven, but the allure is still there.
*Chi-Chi’s, a now defunct midwestern Mexican chain restaurant, was the closest thing to “ethnic eating” my family entertained growning up.
Hey My t-shirt design was picked to be in the official running on threadless! I’m trying to get the word out! I want this bad boy printed…(and the $2500 wouldn’t hurt either!)
Thanks!
WOW…. I LOVE these… why is japanese design soooo much cooler than in the US… no fair! I wanna make one of my own… i wonder if these all scan correctly?!?!
I’ve never really been a big sketcher.. I’ve always been a little embarrassed by the way I draw, even though I’ve gotten much better. I have always been better making the little brainstorming bubbles and sorting out my thoughts that way. Once I started designing on the computer it made MUCH more sense to me to sketch things out on screen… However, as I’ve been sitting here the last few days in my evening *power hour* (that hour after my *day job* & *before my evening relaxation) I’ve found myself completing more hand drawn sketches to start with…. and it’s really been helping me solve spacing issues before I move to the computer. I’ve also been doing other things by hand… like trying to create a real working budget for David & I. There are so many plans we have and we’ve realized we REALLY need to keep track of what the heck we’re spending our money on! So anyways, without further ado… here is a sketch I’ve been working on for a possible future project…
So i’ve had the occasion lately to make a couple of pieces of personalized stationary for both myself and other folks. Personalized stationary is a great gift. The best thing about the size i’ve been making [4"W x 9.25"H] is that it fits perfectly inside a business size envelope. It’s been really fun to make it and personalize based on individual style and color taste.
